Contemplation is when you are preoccupied and focused on something to the point of single-mindedness. Anything you see that causes that is art. Anything you read that causes that is literature. Anything you hear that causes that is music. Anything you think that causes that is wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>Art is then a mental experience and entirely subjective. It can be a shared and agreed upon experience to the extent that we have the same experience and can express that \u2014 accurately \u2014 in words.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever affects, distorts, influences, impedes, frustrates or facilitates contemplation will &#8230;affect, distort, etc&#8230; our perception of art.<\/p>\n<p>What then is great art? What should we make of things we&#8217;ve made that no one else likes? Is it art? Is the contemplation real? Your contemplation.<\/p>\n<p>Art is the universe of a single mind. Single-mindedness is art, as I said at the beginning. That is what makes art, tick.<\/p>\n<p>Years ago I <a href=\"https:\/\/orbittrap.ca\/?p=6110\">posted<\/a> that, <em>&#8220;art is an optical illusion that only some can see&#8221;<\/em> and also, half-jokingly, <em>&#8220;if you look at anything long enough it will become art&#8221;<\/em>. It took me ten years to realize that this is actually what art is.<\/p>\n<p>Our awareness of what art is allows us to recognize it better and more often. This is very important in fractal art because fractal imagery is so &#8220;unclassifiable&#8221;. Contemplation, your contemplation, is the only dial on your space helmet you need to watch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Art is contemplation.
