{"id":2369,"date":"2011-01-21T13:16:46","date_gmt":"2011-01-21T18:16:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orbittrap.ca\/?p=2369"},"modified":"2011-01-21T13:16:46","modified_gmt":"2011-01-21T18:16:46","slug":"an-internet-fractal-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/orbittrap.ca\/?p=2369","title":{"rendered":"An Internet Fractal Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2378 aligncenter\" title=\"monolith\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/orbittrap.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/monolith.jpg?resize=503%2C370\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>The Mona Lisa is the most popular artwork in the Louvre, the most famous art collection in the world.\u00a0 It measures 77 x 53 cm (30 x 21 in).\u00a0 That&#8217;s the size of a high-end computer monitor, today.<\/p>\n<p>The world has the Louvre, and the the Louvre has the Mona Lisa, but Orbit Trap has something better than all that.\u00a0 It&#8217;s called the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Here at Orbit Trap we&#8217;ve created the world&#8217;s first art gallery with absolutely no artwork in it.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s huge!<\/p>\n<p>Well, enough of the hype.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a list of hyperlinks to fractal art that&#8217;s currently posted at various places on the internet.\u00a0 For each artwork, we&#8217;ve posted a thumbnail sized image along with the title and the name of the artist.\u00a0 Click the thumbnail, and see the artwork full-size on the artist&#8217;s own website.\u00a0 We just supply the navigation; how to get there.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the beauty of the internet: we&#8217;re all part of one big computer.\u00a0 It&#8217;s all here, already.\u00a0 Everything&#8217;s as close as your monitor, if you can just find it.\u00a0 On the internet, a good art gallery need only to be a page of links.\u00a0 The artwork stays in the hands of the artists and they control it.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re probably wondering how we chose the artwork?\u00a0 Is it the Best Fractal Art Ever Made?\u00a0 Is this Orbit Trap&#8217;s pale imitation of the great Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest Exhibiton?\u00a0 A new center to the Fractal Universe?<\/p>\n<p>We asked two questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What is fractal art?<\/li>\n<li>What can fractal art be?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Fractal Art Collection is the answer to these two questions &#8211;a visual answer&#8211; in pictures, not words.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a permanent exhibit.\u00a0 Links go dead and we also intend to change them as new examples come along and in order to keep it fresh and engaging.<\/p>\n<p>The fractal art world is big; mammoth in fact, and we wanted to help any curious people out there checking out fractal art on the internet a simple way to get started.\u00a0 A Google image search just doesn&#8217;t work for that sort of thing.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not an art contest with winners (and losers) or an Olympic event with gold, silver and bronze medals.\u00a0 It&#8217;s good examples of fractal art; some common and some not so common.\u00a0 It&#8217;s informative, not competitive.\u00a0 It&#8217;s art.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also a work in progress.\u00a0 We&#8217;re not really sure where this will go or what shape it may take a year, or even a few months from now.\u00a0 We do think, however, that it will be of great benefit to the curious, first time visitor who just wants a <em>summary view<\/em> of fractal art.<\/p>\n<p>The link is at the top of the page under the Orbit Trap title.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mona Lisa is the most popular artwork in the Louvre, the most famous art collection in the world.\u00a0 It measures 77 x 53 cm (30 x 21 in).\u00a0 That&#8217;s the size of a high-end computer monitor, today.
