{"id":1686,"date":"2010-09-30T09:08:40","date_gmt":"2010-09-30T13:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orbittrap.ca\/?p=1686"},"modified":"2010-09-30T09:08:40","modified_gmt":"2010-09-30T13:08:40","slug":"fractal-universe-calendar-2011-spot-the-duplicates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/orbittrap.ca\/?p=1686","title":{"rendered":"Fractal Universe Calendar 2011 &#8211; Spot the duplicates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cornelia Yoder was true to her words: the Fractal Universe Calendar 2011 is made up exclusively of her images and retains the traditional name although the publisher has skipped like a stone from Avalanche to Lang to Perfect Timing.\u00a0 She has also kept up the time-worn tradition of adhering to that tested and true style that, in the words of one editor, &#8220;just works&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Cornelia&#8217;s had quite an act to follow; over a decade of lush fractal bouquets, turned this way, turned that way, some with ribbons, some with none at all &#8211;but all of them radiating that, <em><em>je<\/em> ne sais quoi, <\/em>that has made the Fractal Universe Calendar a cult favorite and engendered today a very cultish following despite more than a decade of progress in fractal art software and artistic style within the fractal art world.<\/p>\n<p>But I sense the worshippers of this Fractal Universe Calendar style are coming to the end of their creative spiral.\u00a0 I can see a good number of images amongst those published throughout the years that bear a close resemblance to each other.\u00a0 Is this the coalescence of a new sub-genre? or the inevitable genetic collapse after so many years of inbreeding?<\/p>\n<p>Some of the images to me look to be minor variations of the same parameters.\u00a0 For instance: compare 2007-4 and 2009-7, counting from the left to the right.\u00a0 Now there&#8217;s a twisted family tree &#8211;one too many &#8220;Julias&#8221; in that one!\u00a0 Imagine having no in-laws.<\/p>\n<p>Look carefully; can you spot any other slightly modified duplicates?\u00a0 A little shift of the hue?\u00a0 Something spun the other way?\u00a0 Old tire, new tread?<\/p>\n<p>Can you see any?\u00a0 Or is it just me?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div id=\"attachment_1695\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fractalforum.com\/index.shtml\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1695\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1695\" title=\"universe-calendar-numbered\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/orbittrap.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/universe-calendar-numbered.jpg?resize=545%2C505\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"505\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1695\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fractal Universe Calendar 2011 and past years thumbnail gallery.
