"...the compulsory 'Another Masterpiece', suck-up, bargaining chip, you-scratch-my-back remark..."

I have seen this for years in many groups/lists, it is the basic cause for the smaller gatherings of fractal people. When one or two people do not go along with the rest, or they get "shut-down" for not following the "rules", then they go off and start their own little group.

And it starts all over again in those smaller groups that cater to specific personalities. Eventually there are hundreds of these small "specific" groups with very few people in each one.

The whole fractal community is so fractured it resembles the type of images they create. Just a bunch of smaller copies of themselves, but with enough little differences to make them their own entity. Each one a bunch of people that enjoy their own lame compliments toward themselves.

Email Lists and Newsgroups are the worst, since so many people Reply with the typical "I love this image" comment, but tend to leave everything from the previous post in the reply. Four or five words for a reply, but a message that is huge because of their inability to trim the previous text/image.

"few-and-far-between post on OT"

Got that right. Some I was really hoping to see. However, I suppose they were never very interested in posting anyway. OTOH, there were some that posted way too much ... one in particular made it to the Mackay blog... probably to Keith's eventual regret... gotta read between the lines more, Terry! ;-)

As far as OT goes, I tried to keep it to about one post every two weeks, which seemed about right to me. Not subjecting anyone too much to my stuff who was thoroughly sick of seeing it!
